Issue 45 of Sneaker Freaker is out now! We’ve powered through the pandemic to deliver another bumper 200-page edition of the world’s greatest footwear periodical.
The cover star is a world-first preview of the Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v3 collaboration. We caught up with Joe in Chicago to find out more about his highly anticipated follow-up to the ‘No Emotions Are Emotions’ project. This is another deeply personal narrative sourced straight outta the late 90s, but Joe is making a serious point with this release.
We also visit Camden, New Jersey, where Byron and Darien Gans have amassed an incredible collection of game-worn pro-models and vintage relics that are all on display at their Shoe Kings store. How this discombobulating shrine to vintage sneakers has managed to stay under-the-radar for so long is a mystery, but Air Rev’s freewheeling 5000-word interview certainly does justice to their unique story.
Issue 45 is dominated by Happy Trails, our 80-page expedition into the Great Outdoors. From Salomon’s asymmetric XA Pro 1 hiker to $1600 Louis Vuitton chalk-bags and HOKA ONE ONE’s crazy TenNine Hike GTX boot, there’s plenty of radical heat to get excited about in 2021.
Our interview with Teki Latex covers everything from his Mowabb collection to harnessing ‘abstract energy’. This is one of the most thoughtful ruminations on the science of collecting we’ve ever published.
We also dig out New Balance’s first ever skate shoe. In 1987, a precocious teen asked NB to make a shoe. Thirty years on, we’ve reunited those shoes with their original builder – the one and only Steven Smith!
Aside from that, you can expect the usual assortment of first looks, deep dives, salacious gossip, artist exposes, highly opinionated speculation and mountains of never seen before sneakers.
ATTENTION PLEASE! It´s important to say that this is not an official collaboration between nike sb and the artists, but an enthusiastic limited sneaker-art project with much love in it. From the community for the community.
