JORDAN 11 ‘BRED’
x SNIPES
On December 14th, the legendary and highly anticipated Air Jordan 11 “Bred” appeared in its most faithful reprint since its first release in 1996, the year in which Michael Jordan aka his Airness wore them to his triumphal march through the postseason after receiving his fourth title and a NBA Most Valuable Player Award. Snipes’ request to design and create an ultimate, limited, incomparable, unique box in honor of the legend itself led to hysterical high fives in the Egotrips Office. Immediately, overmotivated, adventurous brainstorm meetings took place that eventually led us to our box of which we are very proud.
But before we let you know the details, let’s drop a few facts about the shoes themselves.
The AJ11 “Bred” 2019 (Work of Tinker Hatfield) is equipped with original design elements and comes in additional sizes. The timeless black-red colouring is balanced by the strong white midsole with the legendary midfoot carbon fiber plate.
The ice red outsole bears the OG Jumpman logo. The same bright red emblem can be seen on the central strip of the ballistic mesh tongue and on the leather collar. The heel reveals Michael Jordan’s number 23 and the patent leather portion adds a touch of luxury. The shoes come in the original shoe box.
The challenge was to create something new and innovative for the idol of our youth. Factors such as speed, excitement, play, fun and curiosity played a role. Everyone liked the idea of building a remote-controlled, fast wooden box that accommodates the shoes and special extras, and so we set about implementing it. The box is visually inspired by a Nike shoe box. This one would be an XL version. It is custom-made from wood, consists of a top and a mobile base, painted in black and red, with a white Jordan logo and Snipes lettering. The mobile base is embedded in the wooden base and can be controlled by remote control. When the car is put into operation, racing noises are heard which increase the fun factor and awaken the inner child in every adult. In addition to the shoe box, the box contains an extra set red laces and a snipe branded shoe polish kit bag. The remote control reminds one of the gearshifts of earlier Atari games and supports the vibe of 96.
With this piece we have fulfilled ourselves a little dream and thank Snipes for the trust. Who knows, maybe the godfather of basketball Michael Jordan will spend his time grinning and chasing the box around. It’s definitely fun!
